She began playing the piano at age 7!

Her debut album, Songs in A Minor sold more than 12 million copies making her the best selling artist of 2001!

She also dabbles in acting.

She was nominated for a NAACP Image award for her roll in The Secret Life of Bees, of which I am reading right now!

Alicia has an eclectic mix of heritage. She is: Scottish, Irish, Italian and African American.

At age 4 she played one of Rudy's playmates on The Cosby Show for 1 episode.

She is also the cofounder and global ambassador of Keep a Child Alive, a non-profit that provides medicine to families with HIV and AIDS in Africa.

Last year she recorded a theme song for then presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

She was honored in 2009 with a BET Humanitarian Award for her work on the song and campaign.

She was also on Seasame Street in 2005!
